declared the New River an American Heritage due to the rich history of
the valley. The New River is the second oldest river in the
world, second only to the Nile. It has the unique distinction of
being one of the few rivers that flows north. The river borders
both Bisset Park and the RU Dedmon Center.

- "The Long Way Home" Outdoor
Drama- In summer evenings, "The Long Way Home," is a
must see. The outdoor drama features the story of Mary Draper
Ingles, the first bride west of the Allegheny Mountains. She and
her sister were captured by the Shawnee Indians and taken to the Ohio
Valley, in 1755. The drama tells the story of her life,
tragedies, and her return travel of 850 miles in the wilderness, to
give warning of an impending attack.
