Cook Hall of International Education is one of Radford University’s most
beautiful facilities. While the
conference rooms (104 and 105) and the meeting room (107) are available to host
a variety of activities by multiple constituencies, care must be taken so that
the building is properly and efficiently used and that the striking appearance
of the building is maintained. Accordingly,
the following policies for use have been developed.
Two basic premises guide scheduling practices:
Room 107 in Cook Hall may be reserved for campus-wide
forums, workshops, presentations, training sessions, and similar events at which
the majority of the participants are members of the Radford University
administration, faculty, staff, and/or student body. Such events always have priority over events where most of
the participants represent off-campus constituencies.
Activities with broad appeal (faculty, staff and student participants) have priority over those with a more narrow potential audience.
Rooms
104, 105, and 107 should never be scheduled as a permanent location for a class,
and they generally should not be used for individual class sessions.
Exceptions to this policy will be granted if an outside speaker is
invited to a particular class session, additional classes/sections are
attending, and another location of suitable size (e.g., the Heth Commonwealth
Room) is unavailable.
Neither
the conference rooms nor the meeting room are available for student club and
organization meetings. These
gatherings should be held in Heth Student Center or elsewhere on campus.
Exceptions to this policy will be granted under the following
circumstances: a) if there is evidence that space in Heth is unavailable; and/or
b) if the organization is sponsoring an event to which members of other
organizations will be invited. In either of these circumstances, the organization must
provide evidence that its faculty advisor will be present throughout the event.
Conference activities—events at which the majority of
the participants are not members of the Radford University community—may also
be scheduled in Cook Hall.
First priority goes to events sponsored/hosted by Radford
University or one of its units. Particularly
appropriate are those focusing upon local economic development (especially when
such events cannot be scheduled at RU West) or other types of community
outreach.
Lower
priority is given to events for outside constituencies.
Single-day
events have priority over multiple-day events.
No events
involving strenuous physical activity or sports are permitted in Cook Hall.
Events
involving children of elementary school age or younger are strongly discouraged.
Such events are permissible only if there is evidence that the children
will be carefully and strictly supervised during the event.
Within
these guidelines, all events will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served
basis.
